Levels of Competition
Are you new to competitive soccer or perhaps you have questions? Please see some frequently asked questions (with answers) below.
What is OPDL?
The OPDL is the Ontario Player Development League. It’s the highest level of competitive youth soccer in Ontario for girls and boys in the under-13 to under-17 age groups. It gives players top level competition with strict high performance training standards. Almost all of the players selected for Ontario’s provincial youth teams (including our own Alex Kolosov) are current OPDL players or are former players who have graduated to play in League One Ontario. Here’s what Ontario Soccer says about the OPDL.
What is iModel and District-level competitive and how is it different from OPDL?
iModel is the new name for Regional soccer for players from U13 to U18. Unlike OPDL, iModel is not a high-performance league so the level of commitment is less and the level of competition is lower. District-level competitive soccer is just below iModel in the hierarchy. The level of competition is between iModel and recreational soccer. If your goal is to play college or university soccer at an elite school (or higher), OPDL is the level you should seek to play.
What is Grassroots soccer for girls and boys between U9 and U12?
Grassroots is the name for competitive programs for children in the U9 to U12 age group. In addition to our teams that play through the summer season, Kingston United offers girls and boys of all skill levels access to our Academy programs in the fall and winter.
No Gimmicks. No Guesswork. Just Growth.
